The Penelope Dress celebrates the graphic beauty of American patchwork through the artistry of traditional Indian hand block printing.

Rather than using the ornate florals traditionally associated with hand block printing, Alli Marye designed a geometric motif inspired by pieced American textiles that captures the visual rhythm of pieced patchwork while preserving the subtle imperfections of hand-applied dyes.

The custom Lone Star motif was inspired by the geometry of American patchwork. A hand-carved wooden block recreates the crisp, pieced appearance while embracing the subtle shifts in color that make every hand block print feel beautifully alive. The result is a fabric that captures the warmth of heirloom textiles in a lightweight cotton designed for warmer days.

Designed with versatility in mind, the neckline features an adjustable drawstring casing, allowing it to be worn gathered high or relaxed into a softer scoop neckline. Countless hook-and-eye closures extend down the center front, allowing the dress to be styled fully closed for everyday wear or opened to create a customizable front slit. Each closure is carefully encased with contrast Sky Blue binding, transforming a functional element into one of the dress's defining design details.

A lightweight cotton batiste lining extends to the knee for breathable coverage, while softly gathered puff sleeves and three gathered tiers create a flowing silhouette.

Size and Fit Notes: The Penelope Dress is designed with a relaxed, flowing silhouette. The bodice has an easy fit through the bust before releasing into a full gathered skirt, creating plenty of room through the hips. We recommend choosing your size based on your bust measurement. The Penelope Dress is intentionally cut with a loose, gathered fit through the body. The generous sweep of the skirt provides ample room through the hips, making the bust the most important measurement when selecting your size. If you are between sizes, we recommend choosing the smaller size for a neater fit or sizing up if you prefer a more oversized silhouette. Hook and Eyes allow for a completely closed hem or a customized slit height.
